The Jody Grind

Blending elements of folk, funk, rock, and country, The Jody Grind is one of the most exciting banads emerging in the Boston area.  Fronted by singer Sara Colb, whose powerfully soulful voice combines with a versatility formed by a passion for the great female singers of past and present, deeply steeped in blues and traditional rock, The Jody Grind’s songwriting is fueled both by intensely personal experiences as well as a genuine poetic sensibility.  Influenced by both the great lyrical and melodic songwriters of the past, the group’s material sets them apart from the pre-packaged fluff of modern rock radio. These elements come together on stage in a live performance that compels toes to tap, feet to dance, and crowds to come back for more.

Sara Colb and songwriter/guitarist James Houlahan form the core of The Jody Grind Band, which includes a key board player, a drummer and a bass player.

Once a month, The Jody Grind delivers a stunning sonic experience in a naturally live room at Caffe Vivaldi.

An up and coming vocal jazz artist, Robin Aleman has been a part of the local jazz scene for 5 years.  She's been making a name for herself with original arrangements of classic jazz tunes by such greats as Cole Porter, Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis, to name a few.  And, with her Puerto Rican heritage, she's as comfortable with Latin and Brazilian styles as she is with swing.  In 2005, Robin released her critically-acclaimed debut CD, entitled Tonight.  As jazz critic Scott Yanow writes..."Robin Aleman is a name to remember."

The first extended residency, in 2005 at Caffe Vivaldi, launched her career. She emerged from it with a large following and established herself as major singer/songwriter on the New York scene and beyond.  NLX's second(2006) residency  "The Spring"- continued into Summer, Fall and Winter at Vivaldi, as her fans wanted more. And she is back with "more" new and exciting stuff in 2007.

Fellaheen
Indie/Alternative/Experimental

A mélange of alternative rocknroll, scratchy blues, junkyard noise, downbeat jazz, and murky existential wit that betrays a secret pop heart. Slightly off-kilter original songs about dogs, particle physics, shady characters, luvnhate, and works of art in the age of mechanical reproduction.
  9:00-11:00pm Thomas Channell

His songs are poetic narratives on South African themes and characters, as well as universal struggles. The music is a rollercoaster of minimalism and richness, tragedy and comedy, over rivers of euro-african harmony. He is a classically trained pianist with a tremendous voice, and studied music and acting at the University of Stellenbosch and Columbia University. A versatile performer, Thomas sings, plays piano, acts, writes music, lyrics and plays, and even dances (if need be). He has performed at all the major arts festivals in South Africa, as well as in Berlin, New York and Mexico City. His first album "Crowded Sunrise" was released to great critical acclaim in South Africa in 2004 and he has been building up a loyal following in New York, headlining The Songwriter's Beat at Cornelia Street Cafe and headlining CBGB's Gallery to a full house. Other major venues include The Knitting Factory, Lincoln Center, R&R Bar and Caffe Vivaldi.
